The Story of Festive Brass
The Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach was founded in 1998 by Rev. Lawrence J. Beadle of Kettering, Northamptonshire, UK. His musicianship roots were developed playing in London’s Salvation Army Staff Band. Lawrence and his wife Jean retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1992 after 56 years of ministry abroad. As a gifted trumpet musician, Lawrence recognized the need to create a British-style brass band whose primary mission is to honor and support the local veteran community. The ensemble began with only 8 musicians and has grown to nearly 30 all-volunteer member musicians ranging in age from 18-79. The Festive Brass is now in its 23rd season and is recognized as South Carolina’s Premiere Ceremonial Brass Band.
The Festive Brass is comprised of dedicated amateur musicians, professional musicians, and gifted students. The ensemble serves the community by performing annually at Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day Ceremonies for the City of Myrtle Beach as well as past Honor Flight celebrations for WWII veterans. The group performs regularly for churches, retirement communities, country clubs, and outdoor festival venues that celebrate the arts. They perform a wide variety of music ranging from patriotic marches and service songs to big band, jazz, classical, sacred, and Christmas music. The Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach is honored to perform at the 80th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, which resonates deeply with the core mission of the ensemble.
